First Gilbert I think we need to ask ourselves what is a rich person. A rich person’s wealth is subjective and most of the time humans define riches of other’s as having more than the one questioning. Also the ones who have less many times are more subject to covertness than a person who has learned to be content with the wealth God has given them, Luke 8:14, Hebrews 13:5. On the other side wealthy people can be greedy as well as a person who has less. One more thing – wealthy people many times use their wealth to help other more and better than others who have less. Psalm 49, Psalm 112, Proverbs 12:27, Proverbs 22:2, Proverbs 22:4, Proverbs 23:5, Proverbs 23:4, Proverbs 28:6, Proverbs 28:11, Proverbs 28:20, Proverbs 28:22, 1 Timothy 6:9, 1 Timothy 6:17, 1 Timothy 6:18, James 1:10, James 1:11, James 2:5
Your question as to “Why do rich people have nothing to do with God?” it maybe a valid question in your experience and it does have a Biblical answer with verification that riches can be the cause for many not to seek God in their lives. Luke 6:24, Luke 8:14
The reason is because they do not experience the same struggles which poor people have. Proverbs 30:8 Whenever problems and struggles develop it cause one to seek answers outside of themselves in meeting the need and the individual will turn to God realizing they do not have the capacity within themselves to reach. Because of this struggle they seek God for help, this same looking outside of themselves for answers happen do to health. When one is healthy they many times will not seek help in their lives but when sickness come one will seek God for the answers of life and help for enduring and relief from the pain.
The Biblical teaching on wealth:
!. Our Lord Jesus Christ was not rich materially but rich spiritually. He lived His whole life not as a rich man even though He was God in the flesh. Isaiah 53, 2 Corinthians 8:9, Matthew 8:20, Luke 9:58, Philippians 2:1-18
a) Born to a poor family
b) Born in a stable
c) Living as a fugitive for many years as he grew up
d) A poor carpenter by trade
e) When He was in public ministry, He had no place to lay His head
f) He was rejected by the majority, the religious leaders and by the government of His time – very poor social status, not wealthy.
2. He did have wealthy friends but never
question their having the wealth. Lazarus -
Matthew 27:57,
John 11-12,
3.
The widows mint –
Mark12
4. As He preached and taught he directly dealt with a rich young
ruler -
Matthew 19:24,
Mark 10:25,
Luke 18:25
5. He taught about the rich man and Lazarus –
Luke 16,
6. After His death God taught through the Apostle Paul not to love money. Not
that you could not have wealth but were not to love it,
1 Timothy 3:3,
1 Timothy 6:10,
2 Timothy 3:2.
7. Paul talked to believers to be content whether rich poor in
need or not. Live with the state in which God call you to serve Him in this
life. That does not mean you are not to better yourself if you can but not to
make riches or wealth your god.
Hebrews 13:5,
Philippians 4:10-13.
8. In the Old Testament David in
Psalms 73, talked about envying the wealthy and the struggle he was having
and his final resolve.
9. In our struggle to have wealth we need to remember that God promises us the
basics for living – food, and a place to hang our heads or sleep and when those
needs seem to be missing we need to go to Him and hold Him accountable for
meeting the need He promised. God can help you to live content and as long as
you have not resisted to death you have not held the faith of God to completion.
This does not mean that you have to experience complete disaster but it does
mean we need to be ready to suffer until death if that is what God wants. The
times I have resolved the problems with the correct attitude in my heart then I
have seen my circumstances change,
1 Timothy 6:6,
1 Timothy 6:8,
Matthew 6:19-34
John 3:17-23 - For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
Acts 17:24-31 - “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. ‘For in him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring. “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill. In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”
